Maintenance Assistant (Temporary/Hourly), Central Office;

The Office of Mental Health (OMH) is recruiting to fill a Maintenance Assistant position. This is a temporary/hourly position in the Bureau of Environmental Design and Improvement located in the Central New York area. Specific duties to be performed may include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform ongoing maintenance, small repair and environmental improvement projects. Perform semi-skilled carpentry duties, including the installation and maintenance of walls, ceilings, cabinets, doors, windows, flooring and insulation. Conduct skilled surface preparation and application of primer and finish coats of paint in areas designated in the scope of work. Perform housekeeping tasks and heavy cleaning, general grounds keeping, landscaping, building maintenance, and painting as needed. Maintain grounds by mowing grass, sweeping, raking, shoveling, and removing by hand debris, branches, snow, ice, trash, etc. Possess a working knowledge of maintenance and repair methods, materials and tools. Perform manual tasks such as lifting and placing equipment and tools.

Salary Range:
From $17.96 to $17.96 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
Two years of full-time experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson; OR completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services, such as the NYS CSEA Partnership (NYS CSEA-P) Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program ; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of appropriate technical courses at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. Possession of a valid New York State driver's license is preferred, but not required, for this position. Successful completion of the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. It does not include 4,000 hours of on-the-job training, as required for the NYS CSEA-P Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship. Effective December 10, 2021, all employees whose job functions require them to visit OMH facilities and interact directly with patients and patient care staff must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
