Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for leading the manufacturing team and is fully accountable for all aspects of the manufacturing performance to deliver both short-term results and long-term sustainability.
The Director of Operations will ensure that the site has the people, infrastructure, and resources to deliver on time production of high-quality products in a cost-efficient fashion to customers.
The Director of Operations will provide strategic and tactical leadership and have full P&L responsibility for the manufacturing functions.
Other duties include ensuring all company policies and procedures are always followed as well as assisting in the onboarding and development process of new hires.
Adherence to rigid food quality standards and maintenance of all essential quality certifications is a critical aspect of this role.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide consistent ethical leadership and a clear sense of direction and focus that aligns with Company's short-term needs and long-term strategy.
Develop processes to control and leverage production costs and productivity, while maintaining a highly motivated team and best in class food safety and quality standards.
Manage the scheduling and availability of staff, raw materials, and other resources to ensure optimum production output, product quality and on-time shipping.
Monitor manufacturing performance by analyzing current and future demand, cost, efficiency of operations and provide feedback to senior leadership team.
Coordinate, guide, and plan daily production.
Review and analyze daily productivity, waste, and quality reports.
Review and analyze financial, statistical and trend analysis reports.
Develop systems and processes to track and optimize productivity standards, metrics, and performance targets.
Increase production capacity and flexibility as needed, based on Company strategic needs and capital expenditures plans.
Continually evolve manufacturing efficiency and assess opportunities to reduce costs, taking action to drive financial performance.
Oversee coordination of the manufacturing function with sales, marketing, design engineering, and other functional organizations.
Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results at minimum costs.
Address employees' issues or grievances to keep optimal personal motivation.
Develop, train and mentor staff while:
Ensuring that annual performance reviews are completed.
Overseeing training programs to increase the ability to promote from within (bench strength).
Foster a safe workplace by:
Ensuring that employee accidents are reported and handled in a timely and appropriate manner.
Reviewing and analyzing safety statistical and trend reports and safety incident reports to develop corrective actions and process improvement initiatives.
Improving transparency and training protocols to avoid accidents.
Encourage a collaborative and accountable team.
Demonstrate the ability to provide inspirational leadership to all areas of the business.
Consistently demonstrate a proven track record of success, facilitating progressive organizational change and development.
Utilize a strong mentoring, coaching, and influencing style to engage and lead across all levels of the organization.
Interface with outside vendors, contractors, and customers in support of plant objectives.
Participate in other strategic initiatives and projects as assigned by the Vice President of Operations Qualifications/Related
Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience in managing food safety compliance and regulatory agency matters effectively.
SQF, GFSI, USDA, FDA, FSMA certification or experience.
At least 5 years of proven work experience as a production manager or technical manager in the food industry.
Lean Six Sigma certification a plus.
Computer skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office Knowledge of business management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, etc.
).
Experience in planning, inventory control and forecasting.
