Job Title:
Development and Communications Director in our Development & Communications Department.
JOB SUMMARY This position oversees all aspects of the Missions efforts to secure donations, both monetary and in-kind.
Oversees the Volunteer Program, the Thread of Life Thrift Store, and all public relations, communications and marketing efforts.
This position supervises, delegates, and directs responsibilities to the Development Staff.
The Development & Communications Director plays a key role in ensuring the financial sustainability of the organization and the success of its programs and services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Fundraising & Events Develops and Implements a comprehensive fund raising plan that includes major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving, in kind donations and special events.
This includes but is not limited to:
Creating and maintaining a stratification system of donors based on giving levels; Inspiring donors to move to higher levels of giving; Assigning and managing relationships of middle and major donors Develops a digital donor strategy Seeks out gifts of estates and trusts and other financial vehicles that reflect financial planning and deferred giving opportunities Seeks out and cultivates new and potential donor relationships, and maintains relationships with any middle and major donors Oversees the coordination and marketing of all events, including but not limited to Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Community Dinners; Annual Golf Tournament, Walk A Mile, Gourmet Gala and any other events.
Grant Writing Researches & identifies potential grant funding sources, prepares all written grant proposals and ensures all grants including re-occurring grants are submitted timely.
Works closely with Executive Team & 3M team in developing and transferring ideas into successful grant proposals.
Public Relations Marketing Communications Maintains and enhances the overall public image of the Mission by:
Collaborating with the Mission's third party marketing company, publishes an organizational newsletter, geared to donor 3-5 times per year, develops and implements an organizational e-mail strategy, for sharing organizational news and giving opportunities with supporters Oversees, develops & grows social media efforts, including but not limited to webpage, Facebook, Instagram etc.
Produces the Mission's radio program.
Initiate and conduct presentations about the organization with the churches, social service organizations, community agencies, business and foundations and represents the organization at functions.
Conducts special tours for prospective donors, visitors, groups and other service providers.
Coordinates press releases and press interviews, provides a point of contact for the media, and develop and implement media campaigns.
Ensures switchboard for campus calls is covered during business hours and volunteers/staff able to greet visitors in the Administration Building.
Thread of Life Thrift Store Oversees the Operation of the Thread of Life Thrift Store Ensures Collaboration within the Development Team to secure volunteers for the Thrift Store Volunteers Oversees the Volunteer Coordinator and ensures collaboration within the Development Team and 3M team to identify opportunities and match volunteers to opportunities and needs of the Mission Other Engages the Board Development Committee Participates in the Budget Process by setting goals for each level of giving in collaboration with Finance Director and controls the expense and FTE budgets so as not to exceed expense budget targets Database and Records Management - Supervises and manages Donor Perfect and maintains records of grants & other donations that are not recorded in Donor Perfect Sets goals and expectations for Development team members, monitoring performance, and providing feedback to ensure that fundraising goals, budget expectations and volunteer hour goals are met or exceeded.
Submits a monthly leadership report to the Executive Director Attend and participate in regular Ministry Management Meetings (3M) & other leadership meetings Abide by all Mission, program and safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
Attend and participate in trainings as requested by your supervisor.
All other duties as requested by your supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Minimum of Bachelor's degree preferred.
Three years of Development or Foundation work in a non-profit preferred.
Experience with identifying and writing grants preferred Must be available to work occasionally in the evenings, weekends and participates in a holiday rotation.
Agreement with and strong commitment to fulfilling the mission statement of the Rescue Mission of Utica.
Valid NYS Drivers License Required Proficient skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Adobe Acrobat.
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Status/Hours:
Full Time, Monday - Friday- 40 hours per week with occasional weekends, holidays, and evenings required Pay Rate and
